Lessons from Our Latest Class of Interns

At Platform Communications, we take pride in mentoring the next generation of strategic communicators. As several of our interns prepare to graduate and move into their professional careers, we asked them to reflect on the most impactful lessons they’ve learned during their time with the team.

From the importance of behind-the-scenes work to the power of overcommunication, here is what they had to say:

  • Theron Hilbert (Senior): "Every day is a learning process! There’s something new to learn or improve on each shift. Each time I clock in, I feel more prepared for my future career."
  • Addison Dama (Sophomore): "I’ve learned how to work across teams and collaborate with an amazing group of experts in their field."
  • Lizzie Kaiser (Senior): "There’s no such thing as overcommunicating. I’ve seen how proactive communication keeps everyone aligned on client needs and ensures deadlines are met. It’s a simple concept, but it makes a massive difference in quality and efficiency."
  • Eliza Darling (Senior): "Even the smaller tasks contribute to larger client outcomes. Whether it’s pulling a media report or drafting a press release, that behind-the-scenes work really matters. It has allowed me to take ownership of my work and understand how effective communication is deeply strategic."
  • Wes Boucher (Senior): "Working on issues that shape Wisconsin’s policy landscape has given me real-world insight I couldn't get in the classroom. I’ve learned so much about persuasive messaging and the fast-paced realities of public affairs. This experience has been a defining part of my college career."
  • Sydney Palay (Senior): “In almost two years at Platform, the biggest thing I've learned is that communication is everything. At first, I would hesitate to ask questions and just try to figure things out on my own. But I eventually realized that asking for what you need isn't a weakness. It's actually how you get things done right. People appreciate accuracy and effort, and asking the right questions is a huge part of that. It's a shift in mindset that has made me more confident, and it's something I'll take with me way beyond this internship.”

To our graduating seniors: Thank you for your hard work and dedication. We can’t wait to see the impact you make next!

On the Road: Platform in the Field

This April, the Platform team has been on the move, connecting with leaders and organizations  across the Midwest. We had a fantastic time in Minneapolis for the St. Paul Business Journal's Women in Leadership Luncheon, where we connected with female founders who are redefining the landscape of business and politics. Platform was also in Indianapolis for a presentation on crisis communications with The National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) and athletic directors and staff from across the country.
